This constituency is located to the northeast of Winnipeg. The population of the constituency in 2008 was 20,000. The constituency was formed from the western portion of the previous constituency of Springfield and the southern tips of Gimli and Selkirk. This area was previously represented by Ron Schuler (Progressive Conservative Party) in Springfield since 1999; by Peter Bjornson (New Democratic Party) in Gimli since 2003; and by Greg Dewar (New Democratic Party) in Selkirk since 1990.
