Questionnaire Response

Peter Bjornson - Gimli

Why did you decide to run in the 2011 Manitoba election?

I was a teacher in the ‘90s when Filmon was cutting funding to education. We have made tremendous progress in 12 years and have the momentum to continue to grow and prosper. The NDP is the party that will improve Manitobans’ quality of life, through better health care, education, infrastructure and public services.

What experience will you bring to compliment your role as MLA?

I am a lifelong resident of the constituency. I know the communitys’ needs and have worked hard with many organizations to address them. The Gimli constituency is diverse, from St. Andrews to Hecla Island. In the past eight years I have met with municipal governments, school board, recreation boards, service clubs and community groups to move infrastructure and community projects forward.

Is there anything in particular you would like to change in our province? In your electoral division?

The health of Lake Winnipeg is a big issue. We have made much progress to address this and have a longstanding commitment to return the lake to a healthy state. The water levels are a concern and first the Schreyer government and our government this decade built dike infrastructure to protect residents from the fall storms. Health care and education continue to be important priorities for me. We continue to improve facilities and services in the Gimli constituency.
