Questionnaire Response
Glenda Whiteman - Gimli
Why did you decide to run in the 2011 Manitoba election?
I believe everyone should have the opportunity to vote Green.
What experience will you bring to compliment your role as MLA?
I have worked with people from every age group and diverse backgrounds in both of Manitoba's official languages. As a former business owner, I understand the challenges faced by business operators. Other experiences range from driving ambulance and working for the RCMP to making international headlines getting arrested for a good cause. This provides a unique outlook on the past and perspective for the future.
Is there anything in particular you would like to change in our province? In your electoral division?
I would like us to learn to branch out economically and create sustainable, local business opportunities so that we stop depending on and exploiting just a few resources. We need to plan for the long-term. The biggest change needed for my electoral division will have to involve everyone, including outside of Manitoba. We all need to stop polluting Lake Winnipeg. Now.
*What is one thing you stand for that is not a part of your political party's platform?**
Personally, I object to vaccinations. Just about everything else I believe in is included in our platform; it is amazingly comprehensive and recognizes that interconnected problems require integrated solutions.
Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?
I would like to take the time to thank everyone that included me in events and debates, and made me feel welcome as I toured the district and held 'Green Coffee' events. At the grass-roots level, everyone recognizes that the Green Party has a place in the democratic process and our viewpoints and ideas are much needed in the discourse both before and after elections.
What is your favourite location in the electoral division you are currently a candidate for?
Sitting beside Lake Winnipeg watching the sun set and the full moon rise.
