This constituency is located in the southwest tip of Manitoba. The population of the constituency in 2008 was 21,100. It has increased in size from the previous constituency of the same name, taking portions of the previous constituencies of Russell to the north and Minnedosa to the east. This area was previously represented by Larry Maguire (Progressive Conservative) in Arthur-Virden since 1999; by Leanne Rowat (Progressive Conservative Party) in Minnedosa since 2003; and by Len Derkach (Progressive Conservative Party) in Russell since 1986.
